It’s Good to be King

It’s good to be king…if just for a day.  Seriously, I feel like George and Weezy, ’cause I’m movin’ on up.  I just got a new promotion at work ($$$), I am going to be a father in November, and my photography is taking off a little.  Life is good.

The Work Thing – I am moving into a new Storage Specialist role at work.  So instead of being a sales generalist, where I sell all of our portfolio, I am now, well a specialist, only selling a fraction of our products.    It’s the same old cliche’, more money, less responsibility – pretty standard really.  I know what your thinking, and yes, this does require the same laborious 35 hour work week as the previous gig.  I guess nothing worth doing comes easy…right?

The Baby Thing – I am scheduled to be a father sometime in November.  Hopefully, I don’t get a letter to appear on the Maury Povich show for their Who’s my Baby Daddy? episode.  Appearing for a second time would just be embarrassing.  Well, there’s no doubt I’m stoked about this.  So far the little dude is healthy and doing well.  I say this in hopes of having a son.  However, since Murphy is about to move into my spare bedroom, it will be a girl without fail.  Just to give me the lifetime gift of even more worry.  See when you have a boy, it’s easy, you only have to worry about one penis.  When you have a girl, you have to worry about all of them.  Either way, I’ll smoke a cigar and savor the moment.  But if I have to paint the room pink, it will be guarded with a loaded shotgun.

The Photography Thing – Hi, I’m Ryan and I’m a recovering Photographer.  Response from crowd:  “Hi, Ryan.  You’re a photographer and that’s ok!”  I say this because I’ve spent a few thousand dollars on photo gear in the last six months and I don’t really have anything to show for it.

I’ve also loved taking pictures and looking a pictures.  One of my favorite memories as a child was setting up the slide projector in the living room and watching with my parents.  I’m still learning and practicing, but I am starting to get somhe paid gigs and get more comfortable behind the lens.  My main focus will be wedding photography, but for now I am just working on building my portfolio and experience.  Margaret has been my main source of referrals, so hopefully this will continue to spread.  It’s definitely fun and challenging.  My dog is growing tired of my flash going off in her face, so good thing I will have a new model to work with soon.  Maybe he won’t protest as much!

Time to retire to my throne, the King is growing weary of blogging.  Next action item, find a commoner to blog for me.  I’m just sayin’…
